On November 29, 2020, the results of the II International Competition of Young Composers "The New Classics" held by the Moscow Conservatory, were announced.
The First Prize in the "Contemporary Academic Music" nomination went to Yug Markovic from Serbia for his composition "Neon Seed" for string quartet, and Luis Quintana from Puerto Rico with "Smudges Over Dripping Ink" composition for piano and ensemble.
Matt Brown from the United States won the "Contemporary Popular Music" nomination with "Writers' Room" composition for chamber orchestra, as published on Classicalmusicnews website.
The special prize from "The New Classics" Foundation went to Russian composer Ivan Kolovanov. He performed "Concerto barbaro" for xylophone, piano and drums. The winners of the first awards will share a cash prize of 1 million rubles.
This year, a record number of applications have been submitted for the competition: about a thousand young composers aged 14 to 35 from various countries of the world submitted their works. In total, more than two thousand scores were received from them.
