The 10th International Academy of Young Composers will be held in Tchaikovsky with the participation of RMU
The enrollment of participants in the jubilee 10th International Academy of Young Composers begins, which will be held from August 30 to September 13, 2020 in the town of Tchaikovsky in the Perm Region. The hosts of the Academy are the Autonomous Non-Commercial Organization “The Center for New Musical Initiatives” and the Municipal Autonomous Institution of Culture “Tchaikovsky Center for the Development of Culture”.
Dmitry Kurlyandsky, composer, is the artistic director of the event. For the second year in a row, the Academy has been supported by Russian Musical Union, which acts as the general partner of the project.
The International Academy of Young Composers is the largest international composer workshop in the country, a creative laboratory for young composers and performers from Russia and other countries of the world. During the two-week sessions, young authors selected on a competitive basis write new compositions under the guidance of visiting professors, renowned composers from around the world. These compositions are rehearsed and then performed by Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble (MCME) and other Russian and foreign performers in a series of final concerts in Tchaikovsky, Moscow, in Russian regions and abroad.
This year, the Academy will host concerts, lectures, meetings, master classes and presentations. 22 young composers from around the world (10 students, 5 interns and 7 candidates) will be selected to participate in the academy. New compositions of students for 1–5 instruments will be performed in a series of final concerts by MCME soloists.
Famous composers Jan Maresh (France), Andrew Tuvy (Great Britain), Katarina Rosenberger (Switzerland) will be professors of the academy this time. Guests of the academy will be composers Sergey Nevsky (Russia / Germany) and Ramon Lazcano (Spain).
Final concerts will be held on September 12 in Tchaikovsky and on September 14 in Moscow.
In addition to MCME, young performers from Russian regions will participate in the 10th Academy, for which concerts and a special educational program will be arranged. The project will include postgraduate courses for teachers from Perm and Perm region, at the end of which they will be awarded with state certificates of graduation. Also, musicologists and journalists can take part in the events of the academy.
Composers under the age of 35 are invited to participate in the competitive selection. The application must contain the following information and materials:
- Full name;
- Date and place of birth;
- Brief biography (100 words);
- Copy of the passport;
- 2-3 scores on any part (in pdf format);
- 2-3 recordings (in mp3 format);
- Current photo.
