Today, the Ministry of Culture of Russia together with an initiative group, which included leading figures in the musical art, is working on the regulation on the competition. Many artists have already confirmed their readiness to join the organizing committee, including members of the Russian Musical Union Council – Yuri Bashmet, Alexander Sladkovsky, Alexey Shalashov, Alexander Sokolov.
The competition was originally planned for 2021, but because of inability to prepare everything on time due to the current epidemiological situation, the event was postponed to 2022.
The competition will be held in three nominations, in which the musical talent of Sergei Rachmaninoff was most fully manifested: piano, composition, conducting.
According to the organizers, the project will become an important event in the musical life of the country on the eve of the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sergei Rachmaninoff and the Year of Music in the Russian Federation in 2023. The laureates of the competition will be invited to participate in key programs and official ceremonies. Also, Russian laureates will receive targeted support: the Ministry of Culture of Russia will organize their performances as part of events to support touring activity.
