Finalists of Russian Competition of Young Composers timed for the 67th session of IRC are announced

The results of the preliminary selection of Russian Competition of Young Composers, timed to coincide with the 67th session of the International Forum of Broadcasting Organizations “International Rostrum of Composers”, have been announced. The selection took place in the form of absentee voting by the jury.

Russian Musical Union, Orpheus Radio, and Russian Union of Composers established the competition to support young composers and promote the national school of composers.

In 2020, the competition is held in three categories – “Symphonic music”, “Chamber instrumental and vocal music (chamber ensemble, solo)”, and “Choral music”.

The eminent jury of the competition is headed by the composer Efrem Podgaits – professor, Honored Artist of Russia, Head of the Composition Department at Moscow State Musical Pedagogical Institute named after M. M. Ippolitov-Ivanov. The jury also included composers Pyotr Aydu, Tatyana Kamysheva, Elmir Nizamov, Anton Tanonov, conductor Murad Annamamedov and pianist Ekaterina Mechetina.

Over a hundred applications from young composers from various regions of the country (Moscow and the Moscow region, St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, Saratov, the Republic of Tatarstan, Ryazan, Rostov-on-Don, Nizhny Novgorod, Chelyabinsk, Bryansk, Sevastopol, Krasnodar Territory, Krasnoyarsk, Kirov, Magnitogorsk, Irkutsk Region, Arkhangelsk, Ufa, Yekaterinburg) were submitted to participate in the competition.

In the nomination “Symphonic music”, the finalists were announced: Kirill Arkhipov, the author of the concert for the symphony orchestra “Anomaly”, Vladimir Ladomirov with the composition for the orchestra “After Altamira …”, Alexey Chernakov with the work “Concertando for Piano and Orchestra”.

Among the choral works, the best recognized are the choral composition for the folk texts “Spring” by Yakov Alexandrov, “Gloria” for the female choir Elena Weinberg, and the Lyric Anthem of Konstantin Komoltsev.

In the nomination “Chamber music” the string quartet “Lux Aeterna” by Yakov Alexandrov, the composition for the chamber ensemble “White Noise” by Vladimir Ladomirov and the diptych for voice and chamber orchestra “Forest Tales of the Tatars” by Adelia Fayzullina reached the finals.

The final of the competition will be held in the form of public concerts, at which the compositions of the finalists will be performed and the performances will be recorded. The place and time of the concerts will be announced later. The Competition website: www.irc-russia.ru.

The works selected by the jury in the finals will be nominated by the Orpheus radio station for the International Competition within the framework of the 67th session of the International Forum of Broadcasting Organizations “International Rostrum of Composers”, which will be held in Belgrade (Serbia) in November 2020.
