Moscow hosted the awarding ceremony of the IX International Competition for Young Performers Gnesin Jazz

On December 7, 2019, the Concert Hall of Gnesins Russian Academy of Music hosted the awarding ceremony of the IX International Competition for Young Performers Gnesin Jazz 2019. Russian Musical Union was a partner of the festival.

The chairman of the jury and the founder of the competition was Anatoly Kroll, the Head of the artistic section of jazz music of the Union of Moscow Composers, Director of the Orchestra Class of the Instrumental Jazz Department of Gnesins Russian Academy of Music, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation.

Alexander Oseychuk, Vice-President of Gnesins Russian Academy of Music, Valery Grokhovsky, Dean of the Faculty of Music Pop Stage Art, Christina Krit, Head of the Department of Pop Orchestras and Ensembles of Moscow State Institute of Culture, and Kirill Moshkov, editor-in-chief of Jazz.ru, were the jury of this year’s competition.

Auditions were held in the form of three concerts, according to the results of which the best performers were selected. The participants competed in several categories: “Ensemble”, “Orchestra”, “Soloist. Guitar, bass, drums”, “Soloist. Piano”, “The best instrumentalist GNESIN JAZZ 2019”, “For the best arrangement of jazz standard”, and other.

Gnesin Jazz 2019 is one of the largest jazz festivals-competitions dedicated to the art of young jazz performers. Gnesins Russian Academy of Music is the organizer of the International Jazz Festival. The festival is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.

The main purposes of the competition are popularization and promotion of jazz art, introducing young people to jazz, showing the best jazz bands and performers of musical educational colleges specializing in professional education of jazz music, creating environment for professional communication and creative partnerships in joint jazz events.
