Winter Art Festival founded by Yuri Bashmet was attended by more than 15 thousand spectators

Over 11 days, several world premieres took place in Sochi within the framework of the XIII Winter International Art Festival under the direction of the co-Chairman of the Council of Russian Musical Union Yuri Bashmet, as published on the official website of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.

The Festival receives more and more support and attention every year, said Yuri Bashmet, Art Director of the forum. According to him, the show went through various stages, but immediately declared itself as an art festival, which is based on classical music.

For the first time in Russia, an African singer Sona Jobartech, who plays a unique musical instrument named ‘bark’, which is a mixture of a guitar and a harp, performed in the show. Christian Sands, an American pianist and a five-time Grammy nominee performed at a jazz concert.

On the third day of the festival, a musical performance “Van Gogh. Letters to My Brother” was shown to public. Yevgeny Mironov, a theater and film actor, Honored Artist of Russia, acted as a reader and was accompanied by “Moscow Soloists” chamber ensemble.

The program also included a performance “The Mother” based on the fairy tale “The Story of a Single Mother” by Andersen, starring prima ballerina of the Royal Ballet of London, Natalia Osipova and Jonathan Goddard.

In addition to the events of the main program, the “Beethoven Marathon”, “Poets Tournament”, “Dances with Double Bass” and the International Contest for Young Composers were held as part of the festival.
